Personal Injury

If you are in an automobile or other accident and are injured, then it is important that you remember the following:

1.
Be very careful when you discuss the case with the police officer and your own insurance company. Say only what you know and don't try to guess or have words put in your mouth by a police officer or insurance adjuster.

2.

Do not speak to the other insurance company or anyone else.

3. Get to a doctor first but then get an attorney. The attorney can hire an accident reconstruction expert to investigate facts missing from the traffic accident report. Maybe pictures can be taken and witness statements taken while everything is still fresh. The sooner you have an attorney on your case the more effective he can be.

4. Keep a record of all your expenses related to the claim. Do not delay in starting medical treatment as this can compromise your claim.  Keep copies of your medical records and medical bills. Document your lost income, mileage to the doctor, incidental expenses and keep a diary of how you feel day by day.

5. Keep in contact with your attorney and let him know if you move, change doctors, have new developments.

6. If you are given a traffic ticket  retain an attorney to handle it. Even if you are partly at fault you may be able to recover if the other party is 50% or more at fault.

7. If you have medical payments coverage on your own insurance it is ok to use that. Follow your doctor's advice.

8.

Do not sign any releases or any document you don't understand without your attorney's advice. Once you have treated we will try to settle or take the case to arbitration, mediation or trial. Once your attorney's fees and outstanding medical and other bills are paid you get the rest.
